Halal Pork anyone?

This might raise a bit of curiosity...and it did in me; especially since I had been eating out at that Turkish place quite often recently.

Anyway, this restaurant is an a place called Raunheim in germany, and says "HALAL" in big bold letters on the glass windows.

So I was more than a little surprised to see "Schinken" (which is german for pork) on some of the menu items; even though the guy who runs it is muslim.

I was pretty annoyed when I confronted him and asked him what was going on, offering pork on the menu when the place was supposedly halal.

That's when he mentioned, that Schinken was also short for Truthhahn-Schinken (which is turkey-meat)...and proceeded to take out all the meats from the freezer to show they all did indeed have the halal certification on them.

And even though there is another word for turkeys in german, apparently they use the shortened form of the word, "Schinken" , in order to keep the german customers coming in.

Now that's marketing worth laughing out at!

OMG!! I was taken aback at the title and thought something like this is really going on.

Likewise, you can see a "Men's Section" in any Muslim owned jewellery shop in Chennai. You will also see silver utensils in the silver section.

And then I saw a "vastu compliant" mentioned in a pamphet issued by a Muslim construction company owner. When I asked the reason, I got "just to woo the customers" in reply.

:(

May Allah swt grant them hidaayath!

Sometimes i too grab a doner or a durum from the turks. I have seen some arabs here with controversial beliefs, for them, All the meat except pork are halal and they eat anywhere in any restaurant, having sex before marriage is lawful provided the girl is muslim :P. Believe me they really speak so ..

Back in Toronto, a new Tamiyya/Falafel place opened next to where I lived.
It is run my Lebanese Muslims and the last time I was there it seemed that business is good for them.

When they first opened they had Halal BLT on their menu.

For those who don't know, a BLT is a baguette sandwich stuffed with Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato.

My keen eyed friend spotted it and confronted the cashier on which he replied:

"No Brathar ! No ! It is Beef Lettuce and Tomato..."

How funny ! :)
